On November 9, 2019, at the invitation of Professor Feng Shi, the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering, Prof. Yan Xuehai, Researcher of the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Weng Bo, the editor of Wiley Journal, came to our school for an academic visit and made a separate speech entitled “ A wonderful academic report on biomolecular self-assembly photodynamic/photothermal treatment of nanomedicines and How to better publish journal articles?
In the report of “Biomolecule Self-Assembled Photodynamic/Photothermal Therapeutic Nanomedicine”, Yan Xuehai first introduced the current status of phototherapy nano-drugs and the problems still to be solved. Next, the topic of oligopeptides regulating self-assembly of photosensitizing drugs was proposed. . The synergistic self-assembly of proteins and pigments (photosensitive molecules) is a common phenomenon in nature. In the natural light-harvesting antenna complex, the co-assembly of proteins and photosensitive molecules allows the photosensitive molecules to be arranged in three dimensions, thereby achieving efficient light energy capture and energy transfer. Oligopeptides containing only a few amino acids also have complex self-assembly behavior. The research team used oligopeptides to control the thermodynamics and kinetics of self-assembly of photosensitive molecules (such as porphyrins), and obtained a series of multi-dimensional, multi-level and multi-scale functional assemblies. Through the oligopeptide regulation of the interaction between photosensitizing drugs, the precise construction of nano-assembled drugs can be realized, and the energy conversion mode in organi**s (especially tumor tissues) can be controlled, which has controllable energy conversion mode and stability in vivo. Long and biosafety advantages provide a new approach to the development of new anti-tumor nanomedicines.

This presentation from Dr. Weng Bo provides a brief overview of current trends and challenges in scientific publishing, some ethical considerations, how publishers and authors interact and influence each other, and how the publishing arena is being transformed. Tips will be presented on how to select an appropriate journal for your paper, what aspects of preparation and presentation to focus on from an editor’s and referee’s perspective, and hints for increasing the discoverability of your paper after publication.
After the reports, the teachers and clas**ates asked questions to the Prof. Yan Xuehai and Dr. Weng Bo actively. Beside, heated discussed and exchanged on the report were also made on different directions.
Professor Profile:
Xuehai Yan is currently a full professor and principle investigator at the Institute of Process Engineering (IPE), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is vice directors both at the Center of Mesoscience and the Department of Biomaterials and Bioformulations, IPE, CAS. He obtained his PhD with distinction in physical chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, CAS in 2008. After that, he moved to the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Germany, where he won a research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2009-2011). In 2013, He took up the current position in China. His research interest is mainly focused on the biomolecular self-assembly and materials, mesoscale mechani**s, biomimetic protocells and functional architectures for nanomedicine and bioenergy. He has more than 120 published papers from peer reviewed journals including Nat. Rev. Chem.,Chem. Soc. Rev., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater., ACS Nano, Adv. Funct. Mater. etc.,citations are > 6500, a book published by Wiley-VCH, 5 book chapters, and more than 10 patents authorized.
Bo obtained her BSc at Beihang University (Beijing, China). She subsequently obtained her PhD degree in Chemistry at the University of Wollongong (Australia) in December 2012. After that, Bo worked in Southwest University (Chongqing, China), where she was an Associate Professor. Her research mainly focused on conducting polymers. Bo joined Wiley in October 2016 where she works as an Editor for the Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Science, Macromolecular Journals and Journal of Applied Polymer Science.
